When & Where

The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir, under the direction of Kimberly Ruse Davidson, will be presenting its 38th annual holiday concert, “Songs of the Season”, Saturday, December 21st, 2024, with concerts at 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM at Cave Spring Baptist Church, 4873 Brambleton Ave in Roanoke (map it). (The doors will open 30 minutes prior to the performance.)

what we’re singing!

The 38th Annual “Songs of the Season” concert will feature a delightful mix of traditional Christmas carols, beautiful melodies, and popular holiday hits. Classic favorites will include songs like “Carol of the Bells”, “Silent Night”, and “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. We are thrilled to welcome special musical guests, the Roanoke Chamber Brass quintet and Julee Hickox playing flute, who will be featured throughout the concert.

New this year, each of our different choirs from all age groups (6-18) will be performing their own fun and popular song featuring festive choral choreography. Dance along to “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, reminisce with a medley from the classic claymation Christmas movies (with the songs like “One Foot In Front Of the Other”), and enjoy a whimsical and showy arrangement of Jingle Bells with fantastic and precise choral choreography!

The concert will also feature an appearance from the Grinch himself! (don’t worry, we won’t let him steal Christmas). And one of our favorite annual traditions is singing “Christmastide” as the Concert Choir joins with family members and Alumni to sing this heartwarming song together.

Note: The youngest “Little Singers”, ages 4-6, will be singing at the 1:30 PM concert only.

Interested in joining the choir program? The RVCC loves welcoming new singers! We have choir programs for ages 4-18. Please see our website for more information and to sign up. childrenschoir.com/how-to-join

About The RVCC

The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir includes local youth in grades 1-12 divided into 3 Training Choirs and a Concert Choir. Students are accepted into the choir through classes and auditions held throughout the year.

Now in its 38th year under the direction of Ms. Davidson, the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir has earned national recognition for choral excellence and is a highly respected arts organization in the Roanoke Valley and in the state of Virginia. Since its founding in 1987, we estimate that over 2,000+ children, ages 6-18, have participated in the choir program.

Singing in a children’s choir can be life changing for so many children. Along with the artistic expression, musical skills, the choir program teaches confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership, while having fun and making friends. The culmination of these qualities leads to skilled young singers, diligent musicians, and emerging community leaders.

MISSION STATEMENT:  To provide youth with exceptional musical instruction and performance opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment.

VISION STATEMENT:  To develop confident leaders and team members who apply their talent and experience to strengthen and elevate their communities.

Recent featured performances for the RVCC Concert Choir include the 2008, 2014, and 2020 Southern Division American Choral Director Conventions, and the ACDA National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2015. Festival and Solo performances in Canterbury and London in 2017 and solo performances at Carnegie Hall in 2016 and 2022.

Come and hear this nationally recognized choir as they celebrate the joy of singing with our community!
