We want EVERYONE to be able to see and share the beautiful singing of our chorister's performance from our recent outdoor Spring concert, "Sing Spectacular!" This was our first live concert performance since the Covid-19 pandemic started. What an exciting and SPECTACULAR joint concert with Opera Roanoke and the Children's Choir singing together! It was a HUGE production to put on at the Salem Football Stadium with over 100 microphones, professional sound system, 200+ singers, and over 25 volunteers coordinating all the backstage logistics! Congratulations to all!!
We hired a professional videography crew to film the entire concert event. In past years, we have sold the concert video to RVCC families after the concert to help pay for the video production costs of recording and professionally producing the concert video. Here is where we need YOUR HELP! We would like to publish our "Sing Spectacular" concert for FREE on YouTube and make it available for everyone to see, now and for years to come! We LOVE to share the accomplishments of our young singers and we want our choristers to be able to share their beautiful singing with friends, neighbors, alumni, and family who were not able to attend the concert. Anyone around the world can tune in to watch the YouTube Video Premiere of the "Sing Spectacular" Concert coming soon! We can all watch together and remember this exciting performance!
Our past two virtual RVCC choir concerts that premiered on YouTube in 2020 have over 10,000 views combined! You can view our past virtual concerts here:

RVCC Singing "Wear A Mask" Jingle!
ROANOKE VALLEY CHILDREN’S CHOIR RELEASES A PSA TO ENCOURAGE SAFE BEHAVIOR TO REDUCE THE TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19
(ROANOKE, Virginia) -- The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir (RVCC) recorded a jingle to encourage social distancing, hand hygiene, and wearing masks. Recorded October 19, the jingle is being released to the public and all media outlets free of charge and for immediate use October 27.
Using a nostalgic tune from a 1950s-60s Evans Drug Store radio jingle, the 30-second spot has updated lyrics written by Dr. Molly O’Dell. O’Dell is serving as Director of Communicable Diseases for the Roanoke City-Alleghany Health Districts (RCAHD), and is also the parent of a former RVCC member.
“We are thrilled with the participation of the Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir to help reinforce the message that will help reduce the spread of disease: wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance,” said O’Dell. “We hope to see this message shared far and wide.”
Kim Davidson, Director of the Roanoke Children’s Choir said, “The choir is honored to be asked to play a role in helping people remember how to be safe and do their part to keep others safe during this pandemic.” The RVCC’s online version is available at https://youtu.be/xCW3m8NYS0g.
In addition to the audio spot being made available to all local radio stations and other venues with broadcast capabilities, Chris Henson, Creative Director of Access Advertising, will be creating an additional video version of the jingle targeted for an even wider online presence. “I’m also a parent of a former choir member, so I jumped at the chance to help get the word out about this critically important message,” said Henson.
“Think About Your Neighbor…”
-Lyrics by Molly O’Dell, MD:
Think about your neighbor,
Think about your friend,
Think about our elders,
On us they all depend.
Let's all join together
And do as we've been asked-
Social distance,
Wash your hands,
And wear a mask.

(5-24-20) COVID-19 UPDATE: Registration reminder and 20-21 Scholarship form
Hello RVCC!
Best wishes to everyone on this holiday weekend! As the summer season is officially beginning, you’ll be hearing less from me but rest assured that I’ll be working and researching to find the best plan for our choir for the upcoming choir year. It’s too early at this time, to say what that exact plan will be for our 20-21 season. Safety will be the #1 priority and meaningful, musical growth will be a close 2nd! Whether we rehearse in person as a whole group spread a part, in small groups that rotate weeks, live stream rehearsals, video rehearsals, Zoom rehearsals or a combination of all types, we’ll be doing our very best to help our choristers sing and shine!
I’ll keep you updated as I know more. I’m interested to see what the schools will be doing and can use that as a guide. I’m also in contact with choir directors from around the country, listening to webinars specifically for choir planning, and have an engineer friend researching new online programs with low latency for musical groups to be able to rehearse online in real time. There is a lot to consider in this historic time, and our choristers safety and quality of learning and experience are my top priorities.
The RVCC Scholarship form for 20-21 is on the website at: childrenschoir.com/forms
The registration for RVCC for 20-21 is due by May 31 and is available on your Active Network account. The best way to access your Active Network account is through the choir website (in the top menu, go to “Singers / Families”, then “Active Network”. Even if you plan to apply for an RVCC Scholarship, registration is still due. RVCC scholarships do not cover the registration fee.
Sending warm and happy wishes to all of our RVCC Choir family.
With a smile and song,
Ms. Davidson
